Glad you asked! You can apply right on our website or in the Neu app — just provide a few details about yourself.
No, you do not have to be a student to apply for a Neu Card.
Yes. If you have a Social Security Number (SSN), we do a credit check in the form of a hard inquiry when you apply. This happens anytime you apply for a credit card, whether it’s with Neu or not.
Application reviews can sometimes take a little longer. When they do, an update is usually received within 10 business days. If it takes longer, please contact our support team.

Yes. Even though you do not need a credit history to qualify for the Neu Card, we still do a credit check.
Your credit score is based on VantageScore 4.0.
VantageScore 4.0 is a consumer credit scoring model developed by VantageScore Solutions LLC, an independently managed company whose members include the three national credit reporting companies – Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion.
Spending with your Neu Card
Your credit limit may increase over time based on factors such as account activity, payment history, and other eligibility criteria.
You can contact our support team to request a review of your credit limit.
We used the information from your application to evaluate your financial background and credit score to determine the best credit limit possible. (This is pretty standard, btw.)
Don’t worry, credit limits aren’t always permanent! Our plans are meant to help you increase your credit limit over time.
No matter the plan you’re on, we’re here to help you grow financially.
Your credit limit is the maximum amount you can borrow on your card. It helps make sure you don’t charge more than you can reasonably pay back.
It is set based on your application and helps define how much you can spend using your account.
You are charged interest if you are enrolled on the Neu Card 2 plan. No interest is charged on other plans. Whether your plan has interest or not, Neu is focused on helping you grow your credit score and make progress towards any financial goals you may have.
In most cases, transactions that exceed your available credit will not be approved.
Your available credit is your credit limit minus any current balance and pending transactions.
You can check your balance and available credit at any time in the app.
Okay, we’ve simplified this for you: Credit limit is how much money the credit card company will lend you. Available credit is the amount of money still available to spend on your card after you charge stuff. (Example: If your credit limit is $1,000, and you spend $100 on a new fit, your available credit would be $900 (until you make a payment)).
Credit limits stay the same, but your available credit will change depending on how much you’ve been spending and how much you’ve paid off.
Yes, because your monthly payments will be paid through that external bank account.
To securely link an account, go to the Banks section in the app and follow the instructions listed below.
- Tap on the menu button at the bottom of the app
- Tap on Banks
- Tap on Add bank
If you have a negative balance on your account (this is a good thing for credit cards – it means we now owe you), you’re eligible for a positive credit balance refund.
You can contact Neu support to ask for the refund. We’ll either deposit it into your linked account or mail you a physical check. If you don’t ask for a refund, that balance will automatically get applied to new, upcoming charges on your card.
Tap the Contact us tab in the Neu app, email us at support@neumoney.app or talk to a real human when you call 1-844-NEU-DIAL, Mon-Fri, 10am-7pm EST.
Remember when your parents used to get paper bills? Your statement balance is that — a screenshot of all your activity during your billing cycle. Billing cycle is monthly from the 1st of the month to the last of the month.
Your current balance updates whenever you use your card, so it shows how much in total you owe on your card in real time. So if you bought something after your billing cycle ended, your current balance would be higher than your statement balance.
To securely link an account, go to the Banks section in the app and follow the instructions listed below.
- Tap on the menu button at the bottom of the app
- Tap on Banks
- Tap on Add bank
Managing your Neu account
Once you’ve been approved for a Neu Card, you’ll be able to view your monthly minimum payment, and due date, by logging in to the Neu app. Keep in mind that you can always pay more than the minimum payment amount to increase the amount of your available credit.
To view your minimum monthly payment amount:
- Tap on the card button at the bottom of the app
- Tap on Summary
- You’ll see your minimum monthly payment amount along with other important details such as your monthly payment due date
Btw, you may always pay more than your minimum, this will increase the amount of your available credit, which raises the ceiling on how much you can spend.
To make a payment:
- Tap on the card button at the bottom of the app
- Tap on Payments
- Select either Autopay or One-time payment and confirm your payment details
That’s it! You’re all set. You can make payments using your linked bank account whenever you want, as long as it’s on or before your due date.
Btw, if you set up Autopay, you can designate a fixed amount and recurring date so that your monthly payment is automatically withdrawn from your account. Just something to consider!
Sorry, currently you can’t change your payment due dates.
Your credit score is displayed in the Neu app so you can track your growth as you go.
To view your credit score details:
- On the home screen, tap on credit score at the top of the app.
- Your credit score will be displayed along with other important factors that impact your score.
Several factors may impact your credit score, including payment history, credit usage, length of credit history, and new credit applications.
Some general practices that may help support responsible credit use include:
- Making payments on time.
- Keeping balances relatively low compared to your credit limit.
- Paying your balance in full when possible.
- Limiting new credit applications.
Changes to your credit score depend on many factors and are not guaranteed.
Autopay is like autopilot for payments.
When you set up Autopay, you choose a fixed amount (anywhere from your monthly minimum to the full monthly statement) and a recurring date. Every month, your payment is automatically withdrawn from your external bank account without you having to do anything. That’s it!
Turn on or view your Autopay details by following these steps:
- Tap on the card button at the bottom of the app.
- Tap on Payments
- Tap on Autopay
- If you’ve already set up Autopay, your payment details will be displayed. If you haven’t set up Autopay yet, you can turn it on the app.
